Visionary Art by Samuel Farrand

Cosmic Serpent | 2018

Cosmic Serpent | 2018

Fun Fact! Snakes creep me out, the way they move, how subtle they are and how dangerous they are terrifies me. I'm not sure if it's a taboo thing being raised in a Christian house-hold or what? The thought of them gives me chills!

The fascinating thing in all this is I LOVE their symbolism and their place in mythology. I depict snakes a lot in my work as they symbolize transformation, cycles etc... while I have hinted at them through out my work, this was my first piece dedicated to the Snake alone.

Perhaps this was an exercise in overcoming my fear of them undergoing my own sort of transformative opinion of them. Some of my work is intuitive meanwhile some is deliberate. This was an intuitive piece that I just went with.

Oddly enough I have people tell me quite frequently they have encountered this snake on DMT. While it wasn't inspired by a specific psychedelic experience it does compile multiple past experiences rolled out into one piece!

This piece began as a mandala (my piece "Nucleus") and from that split off into its own cosmic entity.

Visionary Artist - Samuel Farrand

Creating visionary art as early as 2007, Samuel Farrand evokes the psychedelic style of artists such as Alex Grey, Robert Venosa, Victor Moscoso, Luke Brown, and Xavi Panneton.

Samuel weaves electrifying neon colors, complex patterns, and intricate mandalas into his visionary art, narrating a story in each piece rich with meaning and symbolism.

Today, Sam has become one of the leading artists in the modern psychedelic art movement. He has showcased his visionary work at venues such as Threyda along side other digital artists such as Android Jones, Jake Amason, Steven McCorry (Glass Crane) & Justin Totemical as well as temporary art installations across Burning Man and psytrance music festivals across the globe. He has teamed with VJ greats such as Jonathan Singer who has projection mapped for the Grateful Dead Fare Thee Well Tour and appeared behind famous DJs such as Trip-Hop Legend Dave Tipper.

Samuel Farrand's visionary art extends beyond music festival culture. Notably, his work is featured at Meow Wolf in both the Las Vegas and Santa Fe locations.

One of his fondest career moment was having his visionary artwork grace the cover of best-selling author/plant shaman Chris Kilham's best-selling cult literature "Ayahuasca: A Test Pilot's Handbook," which was featured live on CNN—a pivotal moment in the history of plant medicine.
