Visionary Art by Samuel Farrand

Astral Flora | 2015

Astral Flora | 2015

This piece was semi-inspired by my ex-girlfriend and one of my best friends. On one of my ex-girlfriend's psychedelic trips she sent me this raw rudimentary drawing of a purple and green dot like pattern, which to me resembled a dandelion when it splits off.

For some reason it moved me and gave me this idea to create an astral plant similar to a succulent, my friend John who is a micro-biologist suggested the petals to be in 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 or 13 because most plants found in nature aren't symmetrical.

This was a great idea that I resonated with deeply because it also opened up an idea on how to make future mandalas so that it combines both symmetry and asymmetry, when I applied this odd number concept I was impressed with the result because it made my digital art look less synthesized by a computer and gave it more of an organic quality to it.

I played off the asymmetry suggested by my friend and created what still stands today as one of my most beloved pieces of art I've created.

Visionary Artist - Samuel Farrand

Creating visionary art as early as 2007, Samuel Farrand evokes the psychedelic style of artists such as Alex Grey, Robert Venosa, Victor Moscoso, Luke Brown, and Xavi Panneton.

Samuel weaves electrifying neon colors, complex patterns, and intricate mandalas into his visionary art, narrating a story in each piece rich with meaning and symbolism.

Today, Sam has become one of the leading artists in the modern psychedelic art movement. He has showcased his visionary work at venues such as Threyda along side other digital artists such as Android Jones, Jake Amason, Steven McCorry (Glass Crane) & Justin Totemical as well as temporary art installations across Burning Man and psytrance music festivals across the globe. He has teamed with VJ greats such as Jonathan Singer who has projection mapped for the Grateful Dead Fare Thee Well Tour and appeared behind famous DJs such as Trip-Hop Legend Dave Tipper.

Samuel Farrand's visionary art extends beyond music festival culture. Notably, his work is featured at Meow Wolf in both the Las Vegas and Santa Fe locations.

One of his fondest career moment was having his visionary artwork grace the cover of best-selling author/plant shaman Chris Kilham's best-selling cult literature "Ayahuasca: A Test Pilot's Handbook," which was featured live on CNN—a pivotal moment in the history of plant medicine.
