Visionary art 'Hexagram' by Samuel Farrand

Hexagram, 2019, – This piece was largely inspired by the Chinese I-Ching. One of the most visually fascinating aspects of the I-Ching, to me, is how the hexagrams resemble computer codes. The concept behind it carries an aura of alien spiritual technology, which I wanted to explore more deeply. I used the traditional colors often found in I-Ching charts—yellow, red, blue, and white (the primary colors)—as the basis for the visionary work.

I played with the idea of spiritual technology and envisioned a spiritual microchip designed to record and analyze information sequences. When deciphered, this information unlocks new levels of consciousness, represented by the central figure, which is open to this spiritual technology and channels it outward into the world.

I didn't want the design to look too futuristic, so I intentionally ensured it retained characteristics true to traditional Chinese aesthetics. I achieved this by designing the outer edges to resemble a Chinese tile and incorporating lotus motifs. This work is 45x45" and took me approximately 80 hours to create.
